Ray Sandford 1924  - 2009

It is with much sadness I have to tell you of Ray’s death on the 6th February after a short illness. Ray has been a club member since 1983 and was made a vice- President in 1993.

Though not a keen match fisherman he did fish the clubs charity match for many years and was a great supporter of Westbrook School, acting as boatman on several of their trout fishing days out.

Many years ago I had the pleasure of his company at Pitsford in a bank match, where we had a couple of fish each and convinced ourselves we had done well only to find Ron Rudge and Steve Whaley had caught dozens of fish, 200 yards up the bank from us. To his credit Ray has done something I have not and that is win a club match, taking the Horseshoe Pairs Trophy in 1995 with Rob Dobson.

Ray had a warm and friendly nature, always having time to talk about fishing and life in general and I feel I can say that he will be missed by all who knew him.

You are all welcome to attend his funeral which will take place at Bramcote Crematorium, Coventry Lane, Bramcote on Thursday 19th February at 5 pm. Afterwards at the Wilsthorpe Tavern, Wilsthorpe Road, Long Eaton.
